Cleats to tie fenders

How do you tie fenders? Over the rail? I was doing that, but was concerned about damage to the bright work. After many trials and purchases I found a rail mounts used for fishing downriggers to attach to the Grand Banks 1.25 inch rails:

These are Folbe rail mounts (link here to product specifications), which are very sturdy:

I added 6 inch plastic cleats from West Marine and atached to the rails. The mount and cleat combination cost about $30 total.

Now, it is really easy for my "First Mate" to adjust the fenders!!
