Trash can drawer

The classic Grand Banks galleys have a nice fold out drawer for the trash can:

But how do you rig up a way to hold it open as shown above? When i bought my 1991 42 there was a cord attached to hold it open, but that cord was either falling into the trash or getting stuck between the drawer and the frame. It was a bit of a pain.

My solution is to install a retractable cable with a stop at the place to hold the can open. So no more cord falling into the traash or getting stuck. The cable I installed is made for tooling and is very strong:
